Land & Leisure, L.L.C., is led by James M. Bednar who formed the firm in 1989 after more than 25 years in consulting to the leisure industries in all parts of the world.
In his experience consulting to these industries, Mr. Bednar has completed feasibility studies, economic impact analysis, strategic planning, acquisition analysis, management audits and site location analysis as well as other specialized studies. His extensive experience in economic research, planning and financial analysis includes numerous projects for entities in both the public and private sectors. He has directed studies to examine the potential for all types of retail and entertainment projects and to properly size projects for their selected markets.
With changing trends in the leisure/entertainment/retail industries, his diverse and international experience provides the basis for the thorough analysis of clients' matters. Since the formation of Land + Leisure, LLC, he has had the opportunity to conduct studies for projects throughout the United States as well as in Brazil, Israel, Turkey, Japan, Taiwan, the Peoples Republic of China, India, Switzerland, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Mexico. Additional international experience includes work in England, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Spain.
Clients have included Elvis Presley Enterprises for the “Heartbreak Hotel study; a theater study for Hollywood, Harrah’s and Sam’s Town Casinos in Tunica, Mississippi; concept and market review for Six Flags Theme Parks (now owned by Premier Parks); and leisure, hotel and retail analysis for the Hong Kong Parkview Group. Mr. Bednar has also served as a consultant to the International Association of for the Leisure & Entertainment Industry (IALEI) and co-authored a Developer’s Manual for the organization.
Mr. Bednar has presented papers on leisure planning at Iowa State University and Auburn University. He has spoken at the International Conference on Retail and Leisure in London. Most recently, Mr. Bednar has a presenter at “Fun Expo”, the exposition of the International Association for the Leisure and Entertainment Industry (IALEI) regarding the development of Family Entertainment Centers. Mr. Bednar served two terms as the Chairman of the Research Committee for IALEI.
